Get ready to revel: National Midwifery Week is October 4-10! We’re taking the opportunity to spread the word about midwives to even more women using the messages in the Our Moment of Truth campaign. We believe everyone has the right to know how much #MidwivesMakeADifference to women and families!
National Midwifery Week was created by ACNM to celebrate and recognize midwives and midwife-led care. We need your help to keep spreading the word! Every action from every individual builds our celebration and helps to raise awareness. Here’s what you can do to help.
Watch and Share our Video
Keep an eye out for a NEW video premiering during the week, but also continue to share our recent one on midwives in hospitals
...and promote last year's, as well!
Share our Daily Action Plan
One of the simplest ways to participate in National Midwifery Week is to encourage clients, friends, and family to take part in our daily action plan. Each action of the day is geared toward creating a new understanding of midwife-led care and the importance of normal, healthy birth. And don't forget to use the official hashtag #NMW15 whenever you post or repost on social media.
Monday: Know Your Options! When it comes to health care, you don’t have to settle. Commit to exploring your options for birth and women’s health care by signing the Your Health Promise pledge at www.ourmomentoftruth.org. Educate yourself about what the pledge really means and why taking this step is so important for you and your family.
Tuesday: Bust a Myth! Misunderstandings keep many women from enjoying the benefits of midwifery care and normal, healthy birth. What myth about midwives or birth do you most often encounter? Check out the midwifery myths listed here, or think of your own. Then share the truth through your social media networks.
Wednesday: Spread the Word Pick one thing you can do today to be a champion for midwives and healthy birth in your community. Check out the great tools here, and take one step forward by sharing an OMOT Facebook status, joining the OMOT listserv (for ACNM members only), or personalizing a resource in one of the OMOT Toolkits.
Thursday: Share Your Story! Share your moment of truth. Did you have an “ah-ha!” moment when you realized midwifery care was right for you? Have you had a positive experience with normal, healthy birth? Have you discovered the advantage of using a midwife for your primary care needs? Share your story on the Our Moment of Truth website, and then share the link to your story with your social media networks.
Friday: Put Yourself First! Self-care is always important, and National Midwifery Week affords the perfect opportunity! What will you take time to do for your health? Ideas include: get a flu shot from a midwife who provides primary care, enroll in that prenatal yoga class you’ve been putting off, or schedule your annual well-woman exam with a midwife. Let us know how you are going to put yourself first here, and how midwife-led care inspired you or helped play a direct role in putting your health first.
